The Early Bird Gets the Worm

Well, it looks like our little guy will be getting the worm. At 3:30 am on Thursday morning, Kristl woke me up saying that she was having contractions and asked if I would want to help her time them. Sure enough they were about 2 minutes apart. Time to go to the hospital. A couple of hours later (and a little over two weeks early), Matthew Lowe Nelson arrived on the scene and single-handedly destroyed Abby's monopoly on Mom and Dad's attention. No more anti-trust violations for Abby. We are officially in duopoly territory now.

As if loyal readers of the Skelter couldn't tell by the obscure (and frankly, not terribly funny) economics joke, Kristl is currently recuperating in the hospital right now so I get the privilege of reporting Matt's arrival to the world. He weighed in at 7 lbs 4 ounces and was 19 inches long. In probably the most amazing coincidence of the whole process, Matt was born at 1:21 pm. I was also born at 1:21 pm. 16 years from now when Matt complains that his parents don't understand him I can say, "Matt, I know where you are coming from. I was born at 1:21 too."

Kristl was amazing through the whole process. But really, does that surprise any of us? She was tough and strong and did not complain once. She has been a fantastic Mom to Abby and I have no doubt that she will be the exact same for Matt. I am so lucky to have such a great family. Happy 4th of July, Everyone. Matt, enjoy the fireworks. They're for you.

Congrats you all and welcome to the world little Matt!
Great work Kristl. We are looking forward to meeting the Skelter offspring one day... I know they'll be just as amazing as their parents are.
Love from Texas,
